What should staff do while waiting for service?
- Record when the condition began.
- Record the displayed temperature, independent reading, set point, alarm, and time.
- Protect or relocate product according to the facility's approved plan and responsible decision-maker.
- Minimize unnecessary door opening when consistent with facility procedure.
- Confirm doors close and that visible interior or exterior airflow openings are not blocked, without removing guards or panels.
- Photograph the nameplate, controller, cabinet, door, visible ice, water, oil residue, and accessible equipment area.
- Note recent loading, cleaning, power interruption, repair, remodel, or operating changes.
- Gather access, purchasing, COI, W-9, purchase-order, and vendor requirements.

Do not use an open flame or sharp tool to remove ice. Do not bypass a safety or controller, attach gauges, add refrigerant, cut a refrigerant line, or perform energized testing unless qualified and authorized. For smoke, arcing, a burning odor, exposed wiring, or another immediate hazard, follow the facility emergency plan.

Is a reach-in cooler the same as a commercial refrigerator?

Can the problem be diagnosed from a photo or alarm code?
No. Photos and codes help identify the equipment and direct the inspection, but they do not replace model-specific documentation, onsite measurements, electrical testing, refrigeration analysis, and qualified judgment.
Can refrigerant simply be added?
A loss of charge should not be treated as an automatic refill. Refrigerant-side work requires the appropriate qualified and certified person, and the provider should determine whether there is a leak, what repair is required, and which current requirements apply.
